This is quite possibly our favorite year we've done on this show! The 70s was full of avant guard cinema and outright crazy gonzo productions. We were really excited to talk about the best picture nominations:

  • The Godfather Part 2
  • Chinatown
  • The Conversation
  • Lenny
  • The Towering Inferno

Plus a few other categories we felt needed to be added to the Oscar list like Comedy Gold, The Independent Darling, and The Sequel of the Year!

This week we deep dive into our love for a genre that peaked in the 1970s, the disaster movie, culminating in the nomination for Best Picture one of the most epic of disaster movies, The Towering Inferno! We discuss the competition between the two starring actors, Steve McQueen and Paul Newman, the biggest names in Hollywood at the time, and my profound fear of using the rescue wire chair from the 100th floor of a flaming building. We also touch on Gene Hackman in The Conversation and the toilet of blood, the zombie revenge blacksploitation movie Sugar Hill, and the monumental weirdness of John Boorman's Zardoz! Hey, it was the 70s.

Want to be part of the excitement, listen and find out who we think could have been added to the Best Picture list! Was the Academy right?  Do you agree with our correct assessments?
