Episode 29: 1985 - Part 1
This week we go "back in time" to 1985! Wow, it was such an enjoyable trip to a time of our tumultuous youth to watch the movies that were so essential to our formative years, and boy did we find a lot to talk about!
So much so, we decided to split the show into two parts! Part one is available now, Part 2 will be available next week.
But first, we are so excited to discuss this years list of Oscar nominees:
- Out of Africa
- The Color Purple
- Kiss of the Spider Woman
- Prizzi's Honor
- Witness
As if that wasn't enough, we added a few other categories to the Oscar list like The Best Grandma Moment, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best!
With all the great action, adventure, comedy, scifi and fantasy movies that were produced in 1985, why did the Academy choose to be so SERIOUS with their nominees and exclude all of the mentioned genres from the list? We talk about that. Not only do we talk about it, we created our own Oscar's list with blackjack and hookers! Ok, no blackjack or hookers, but we made a 10 slot "Pop Oscars" list containing all the genre movies that got snubbed by the Academy. Who did we think would win? Back to the Future? Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome? Pee Wee's Big Adventure? Well, you'll have to listen to Part One and find out! Plus Comedy Gold, the amazingly competitive Comedy Lead, and we discuss what Carlos really thought of Prizzi's Honor!
